The terms ‘Solti’ and ‘Soltini’ hold special meanings in the Gurung culture, mainly referred to as ‘marriageable cousins’.

To uphold the traditional cultural knowledge and understanding, and to encourage young Tamus to recognize their relationships, the SNOC (Soltini Night Organisation Committee) was formed in 2010, under the stewardship of current Tamudhee president Subasing Gurung.

There was another poignant yet important message that the youths wanted to highlight through this program that they truly cared for those back home in Nepal who are living in poverty –especially little children who want to but cannot afford to go into education. All proceeds from the Charity Event would go into supporting young children from poor families attend schools back in Nepal.

After much planning amongst the younger generation of Tamu-mais, the Soltini Night took off to great applause from over 400+ audience at the Princess Hall, Aldershot on 10th April 2010 which also coincided with Nepali New Year 2067 celebrations.

Young, aspiring artists from all parts of the UK showed their support, by performing over 5 hours live band show. The performing artists included JPT Rockerz, Nattu-Just for you, Paper-Edge, Last Minute feat Dichen, Jude Parallel Society and Iconice- the Dance Crew. DJ for the night was DJ Bishal, who played hits after hits and entertained the crowd until 1am.

The Tamu Youths would like to thank the following people for helping make the night such a great success:

The Parents of the Performing Artists for their support and encouragement, Tamudhee UK, Youth Advisors and Co-ordinators for the event- Omkar Gurung (Greenford), Anju and Nisha gurung (Plumstead), Pratim Gurung (Camberley), Ashish Gurung (Aldershot), Anita Gurung (Birmingham), Pranay and Saugat Gurung (Folkestone).
